Friend,

I know what you are going through. All the talking heads want to discuss is Trump's trial or whatever nonsense polls have just come out. If you take them at their word, the sky is falling and the guy who’s about to be convicted is going to become President again.

My advice? Ignore the noise. They are counting on us being distracted and tired.

As somebody who has followed a lifetime of these elections very closely, I'm here to tell you to keep calm. My mantra has always been, “Let them do the crazy while we do the work.”

Crazy like the GOP nominee for Governor in North Carolina waxing poetic about how women shouldn’t be allowed to vote. Crazy like Donald Trump suggesting MAGA’s coming after birth control next. Crazy like MAGA members of Congress ditching work to go pay homage to Dear Leader at his trial.

All of that is the true “distraction.” They are so focused on the Trump circus that if we put it out of our heads and actually go work on winning over the 15-20% of GOP voters who are never going to vote for Trump again – he is toast.

Yes, President Biden has some work to do with groups like young voters, Black voters, and Latino voters. But remember this: he is the only one who can win those votes back. And the presidential race is in a dead heat right now while President Biden can grow with these groups. If Biden gets a few points back with them? Trump is toast.

I know how high the stakes are. But we need to, as our friend and colleague Trygve Olson so often says, play the game we’re in. That game is following the “breadcrumbs” Nikki Haley has left in key swing states and turning those voters off Trump for good. It’s doing what we do best: helping President Biden win a close election. We did it in 2020. We stopped the so-called red wave in 2022. Now we are going to do it again.

Don’t freak out over polls. Don’t get too caught up in the Trump circus. Stay calm, do the work, and focus on November.
