Remember this from way back in 2021, John?

Back then, in response to conspiracy theories about the 2020 election, Wisconsin’s then-conservative-controlled Supreme Court ruled that absentee ballot drop boxes may be placed only in election offices (not out in the community for easy access) and that no one other than the voter can return a ballot in person.

That was a huge setback in the fight for mail-in ballot access and for voting rights supporters in Wisconsin, especially how ballot drop boxes have been proven safe and secure time and time again.

Well, there's now some really good news:

The Wisconsin Supreme Court announced it will consider reversing its two-year-old decision banning absentee ballot drop boxes in a new case. This marks another significant shift between the current, liberal-controlled court and the previous, conservative high court, which banned drop boxes two years ago.

The court will weigh in on three matters: the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s 2022 ruling that unmanned absentee ballot drop boxes are illegal; Wisconsin’s requirement that returned absentee ballots must be accompanied by a valid witness signature; and state law setting an 8 p.m. Election Day deadline for when voters can “cure” or correct errors on their absentee ballots.
