Dear john,
I'm so proud to have served on the Quality of Life (QoL) Panel, which worked to publish a report of recommendations to improve quality of life for our servicemembers and their families.
As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I just spent 12 hours in a hearing with my colleagues on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the bipartisan legislation that funds our military. I'm glad to report that we used much of our recommendations from the QoL report as a guide.
One of the most important recommendations was on pay raises for our servicemembers. We found that servicemember compensation is not competitive with the private sector, which undermines recruitment and retention for our All-Volunteer Force.
Our military families already struggle and sacrifice so much to make ends meet. That's why I'm thrilled that we included our pay raise recommendations in the final version of the NDAA from the House, and I look forward to it being signed into law by President Biden.
