** “.. the more important question is not whether one should ever get nonprofit status, but what is the most strategic way to use nonprofits so they support movements rather than being thought of as the movement.” - INCITE, The Revolution Will Not Be Funded

2024 marks ten years of fiscal sponsorship for Allied Media Projects. In light of this milestone, we are demystifying what fiscal sponsorship is and how we do it at AMP. Essentially, as quoted by Jenny Lee, former Executive Director of AMP, “We became a nonprofit so others didn't have to.” We strive to nourish, protect, connect, balance, and cultivate the ecosystem of media for liberation.

We view our role of fiscal sponsors as the understory of a forest— the structurally complex community working beneath the soil to nourish, protect, and cultivate the whole ecosystem. Allied Media Projects provides the compost, humus, soil and mycelial network for our sponsored projects to thrive and do the radical work of media for liberation.
AMP has grown the organizational capacities of 150+ projects through services such as accounting, HR, and fund development.
We facilitate the flow of resources, bolster our projects’ capacity to uproot oppressive systems, and plant new liberatory ways of being through our radical shared infrastructure. We aim to use our nonprofit status to minimize and humanize the impacts of navigating the nonprofit industrial complex.
This work is vital in the face of state repression and backlash with congressional efforts to equate Palestinian liberation efforts to illegal activity including legislative bills H.R. 6408 | S.4136. This legislation authorizes the Treasury Department to unilaterally designate US nonprofits as terrorist-supporting organizations. With this authority, the Secretary of Treasury could strip certain nonprofits of tax-exempt status and constructively shut them down. For more information regarding this legislation, check out this one-pager about H.R. 6408 | S.413 created by Muslims for Just Futures ([link removed]) .
We are committed to continuing the work of radical fiscal sponsorship and you can help us by supporting us by donating, sharing our work, or supporting one of our projects directly ([link removed]) .
