1) More than 300 State Legislators Sign Resolution Asking Congress to Extend Trump Tax Cuts

Bravo to our friends at ALEC for rallying state legislators from Connecticut to Idaho to endorse making the Trump tax cuts permanent. The directive highlights the positive impact of the 2017 tax cuts - including lowering the corporate tax rates from the highest in the world to below the international average.

Among the highlights of that bill:
  • Tax receipts rose to their highest levels ever.
  • The share of taxes paid by the rich rose to the highest level ever.
  • The United States repatriated roughly $1 trillion of capital from the rest of the world.
  • The black and Hispanic unemployment rates fell to the lowest levels in fifty years.
  • The average family saved roughly $1,500 on their taxes.
  • The percentage of Americans who itemized their deductions fell by roughly half.
Now Biden wants to repeal the whole law.

2) Drug Deaths Are Skyrocketing

Yesterday we showed the long-term income trend since the 1980s, including a substantial expansion of the middle class.

https://committeetounleashprosperity.com/hotlines/natcons-and-bernie-sanders-are-wrong-middle-class-america-has-gotten-much-richer-since-1980/

The NatCons and the socialists of the left both have that wrong.

What the NatCons have right is that we have suffered a social breakdown with grave consequences, especially for minorities and lower-income groups. The problems have become much worse in the Biden years. The unsecured border and inflow of fentanyl are killing young people.

We at CTUP are focused on a pro-growth economic agenda – but true wealth also requires replacing left-wing ideology with basic competence to restore order and safety to our society.

3) More Evidence that Fauci Lied and Covered Up Wuhan Lab Funding

We congratulate Reps. Brad Wenstrup and James Comer for tracking down a cache of emails from Anthony Fauci's fixer, David Morens, to Peter Dazcak, whose group EcoHealth was using US taxpayer dollars to conduct risky gain of function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The emails show that Fauci and Morens did everything they could to conceal the true story about coronavirus origins from the public.

Marg Moore, the "FOIA Lady" at NIH "who hates FOIAs," taught them to delete records to avoid producing responses to FOIA requests:

And Morens sent FOIA-avoidance messages to Fauci's secret email or hand-delivered them to Fauci at his office or home:

Morens reassured Dazcak in one email: "We are all smart enough to know never to have smoking guns."

In his testimony yesterday, Morens claimed it was all just "black humor," and that he was joking around with his friends. Sure.

One of the reasons we may never know for certain whether the coronavirus leaked from a lab is that so much evidence was illegally destroyed or concealed, not just by China but by US bureaucrats who were involved in funding the Wuhan lab.

Rand Paul is calling for the DOJ to open a criminal investigation. We wholeheartedly agree.

4) Big School Choice Election Wins in Idaho

The Idaho legislature may be controlled by Republicans, but teachers unions rented enough members to defeat a sweeping school choice bill last year.

In GOP primaries this week, the anti-school choice Republicans suffered a series of brutal losses. Senate Pro Tem Chuck Winder was defeated in a stunning upset. Rep. Julie Yamamoto, who chaired the House Education Committee and opposed school choice, lost to challenger Kent Marmon. Several other incumbents lost while Rep. Wendy Herman (the House’s most outspoken school choice supporter), defeated a union-backed candidate.

The Idaho Federation for Children spent more than $400,000 promoting pro-school choice candidates, and proved that the evil empire of teacher unions can be defeated if there is anything close to a level financial playing field on the issue.

A school choice bill is now much more likely to succeed in Idaho next year.

This coming Tuesday, an even more important test will take place in Texas where a lot of attention has been spent on the role school choice is playing in GOP primary runoffs. Allies of Texas Governor Greg Abbott are close to beating enough anti-choice incumbents to make passage of a universal school choice bill likely next year.

The teacher unions are still powerful, but elections this year in state after state are showing their hold on both parents and educators is weakening.

5) Crudely Political

You’ve probably heard of Biden's scheme to drain another one million barrels of oil out of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to try to bring gas prices down a bit this summer. The national average is about $3.69 a gallon. It was $2.42 when Biden entered office and declared war on fossil fuels. The latest withdrawal may reduce prices temporarily, by at most a nickel a gallon.

The SPR is now down more than 100 million barrels. What happens if we have a real emergency (hurricane, terrorist attack, Arab oil embargo), not a White House emergency? If you want lower gas prices, the best way to achieve that is drill, baby drill.
