Hello John,

Zoo Awareness Weekend is in full swing and lots of people are getting involved! On our social media pages (links at the end of the email!) you can see how other animal advocates like you, are speaking out for owls and other birds exploited in bird of prey zoos.

You can join them!!

** TAKE ACTION!
------------------------------------------------------------
1. Contact DEFRA by email and demand they ban tethering! ([link removed]) This would make it much harder for bird of prey zoos to exploit birds as they do so could have a big impact!

2. Tweet @DEFRAGovUK ([link removed]) with our suggested tweet:
@DefraGovUK please ban tethering of birds in zoos and other places keeping wild birds of prey captive! This is a cruel and outdated practice that would never be accepted for other wild animals like tigers or elephants... and birds are suffering! #EndTethering @freeanimalsuk

3. Download our poster or create your own and take a selfie to post on social media! ([link removed]) Don't forget to tag us and use the hashtags #zooawarenessweekend #letbirdsfly #tetherandtorment

4. Make a donation to fuel the fight to free birds from captivity! ([link removed]) Your donation will mean we can keep campaigning during lockdown and be ready to investigate bird of prey zoos again as soon as things are back to normal!

Did you know?
------------------------------------------------------------
Owl species make up almost half of all the animals exploited in bird of prey zoos. These animals are often exploited from the day they hatch and are trained to perform on command.

Read our latest blogs ([link removed]) on the cruel training methods used by owl 'handlers' to manipulate owls. And how they ignore the nocturnal and biological needs of these animals to entertain humans. We also compare life in the wild for a owl vs their sad life in captivity.

All of these reasons and many more, are the reasons why with your help, we will keeping fighting for owls and other birds. So please join us in taking action this weekend to make a stand from our homes!

Thank you.

For the animals,

Nicola O'Brien
Campaigns Director

P.S. The fight for owls and other birds suffering in captivity is happening RIGHT NOW. You can join in too by taking part in one of the actions above! All birds should fly free!
