Off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico is one of the last healthy coral reefs in the world. But the problem is… it’s surrounded by oil refineries and offshore drilling.
With climate change causing more frequent and more intense coral bleaching events, we need to be doing all we can to protect the coral reefs we have left. Unfortunately decades of close proximity to oil drilling has left literal markings in the skeletal structure of these coral.
It begs the question: Have we learned nothing from the days of the BP Oil Spill?
While the Gulf Coast’s coral reef was fortunately outside the range of the BP Oil Spill, next time it might not be so lucky.
That’s why SEEC PAC is dedicated to supporting our members in Congress who are pushing for stricter regulations for offshore drilling, so we can prevent the next BP oil spill before it happens, rather than trying to mitigate the harm after a catastrophe has already occurred.
Thanks to your help in 2022, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 118th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future.
