Dear John,

Right now, the Trump Administration is fast-tracking a mining project that
threatens the world’s top hotspot for wild salmon.

Indigenous communities and fisherpeople in Alaska’s Bristol Bay have long
opposed the Pebble Mine project. It would poison the pristine ecosystem with
lead, arsenic and other toxins -- wiping out some of the world’s last remaining
wild salmon.

But now, while the public’s attention is on the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the
many terrible projects the Trump Administration is trying to sneak through is
Pebble Mine’s permit. We’ve been fighting alongside the local community to block
the project for years (I was born and raised in Bristol Bay!), and now we need
your sustained support to ramp up the campaign for long fights ahead.

Don't let the Trump Administration fast-track environmental disasters like
Pebble Mine and more during the pandemic: Donate $5 or more each month to
Friends of the Earth.

Thanks to support from activists like you, Friends of the Earth is pressuring
the Army Corps of Engineers to protect Bristol Bay’s communities and pristine
salmon habitat, especially during the pandemic.

We know Trump’s administration won’t let up; they’re exploiting this crisis to
help their Big Polluter buddies every way they can. But right now, the Army
Corps should be focused on protecting people from the coronavirus, which rural
Bristol Bay communities are scrambling to do.

Although the majority of Alaskans, and particularly local Bristol Bay
communities, have overwhelmingly opposed Pebble Mine for a decade, they’re now
busy with preparing for the pandemic -- and unable to fight back as the
administration pushes through the permitting for Pebble Mine.

That’s why Bristol Bay’s local leaders, including tribal and fishing leaders,
formally requested weeks ago that the Army Corps postpone its permitting
schedule so they and federal agencies have time to review the project, after
responding to the pandemic.

But so far, the Army Corps hasn’t listened. We can’t let up. In order to ramp up the pressure and gear up for this -- and
all the fights ahead as Trump exploits this pandemic -- we urgently need your
sustained support.

Rush a monthly donation of $5 or more per month to Friends of the Earth, so we
can gear up to fight even harder for people and our planet over polluters’
profits.
