Friend,
I am so sorry to hear about the communities across the state that have been affected by yesterday’s severe weather, especially the Greenfield community and those who lost loved ones.
Let’s talk about some resources that are available to us to help folks who are dealing with storm damage, and some information about how we can help the Greenfield community specifically.
Anyone who would like to help clean up the Greenfield community can receive credentials at the Iowa D.O.T. Maintenance shed located at 2313 State Highway 92, which is just east of Greenfield. A large red Hy-Vee semi trailer will be the hub for credentialing, according to the Adair County Sheriff’s Department.
Donations can be made to FNB Bank [[link removed]] and Union State Bank [[link removed]] , which are local banks in Greenfield, and the Greenfield foundation at greenfieldiafoundation.org [[link removed]] .
Red Cross
Those who are in need of immediate assistance can reach out to the Rred Ccross at 1-800-RED-CROSS, or 1-800-733-2767. The Red Cross is also supporting an independent community shelter in Greenfield located at Nodaway Valley Community High School, 410 NW 2nd St.
The Red Cross is accepting donations at redcross.org/ia [[link removed]] .
Emergency Disaster Proclamation
Governor Kim Reynolds has authorized a Proclamation of Disaster Emergency for fifteen counties following the storms that occurred on May 21 including Adair, Adams, Cass, Clay, Hardin, Harrison, Jasper, Kossuth, Marshall, Montgomery, Page, Palo Alto, Pottawattamie, Tama and Warren counties.
Residents of those counties can apply for the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program that provides grants up to $5,000 for households with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Grants can be used for home or car repairs, replacement clothing or food and temporary housing expenses.
Grant applications and instructions are available on the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management website. [link removed] [[link removed]] .
Potential applicants have 45 days from the date of the proclamation to submit a claim.
Thank you to everyone who is stepping up and helping their neighbors,
Rita
