John: Donald Trump’s first New York City rally of his re-election campaign is tomorrow.

Donald Trump has sown hatred and division since long before 2016, but his presidency marked a new low for our nation.

We saw regressive policies targeting marginalized communities, a complete and total disregard for the rule of law, and a devastating assault on our democracy incited by Donald Trump himself.

And oh boy, can we expect the usual from Trump tomorrow: far-right bigotry, extremist anti-democratic rhetoric, and a massive amount of disinformation.

That’s why it’s up to us to demonstrate that New Yorkers won’t stand for Trump’s extremism.

Our democracy must be defended and our fundamental freedoms must be protected — and our work at the local level has an outsized impact on the future of our country.

Progressive local leadership is key to cementing the foundations of our democracy, and I promise to continue fighting to transform our institutions to bring about more equality, justice, and investment in our collective future.
