I can’t believe that it is almost JUNE! We have been going full steam identifying human rights violations in San Diego and boldly confronting them with dignity. It has been a whirlwind; lots of lessons learned and lots of stories told. We are not fully exercising our humanity if we aren’t telling the stories of those most impacted by the inequities of society. For us it’s not just a theory, it is a daily practice of starting with dignity that keeps us rooted; it is the spirit of creating sustainable change. The strategies we use to communicate to our supporters, the spirit in which we engage conversations with the community, the hospitable services to clients that protect their legal rights, the energy we evoke when advocating for policies that provide long term protection, and our efforts to develop the leadership and curiosity of local youth is all filtered through a lens of dignity.
[link removed] [[link removed]] Our [[link removed]] Start with Dignity Workshop [[link removed]] is an original, ever evolving paradigm that uses the lens of dignity as a foundation. It offers the community a way to digest issues we are fighting for and provide tools to combat human rights violations. The goal is that every participant walks away with new ways to elevate, claim, and protect their dignity and that of others. In the last 7 months, since training our first cohort, we have completed over 50 sessions developing over 200 new defenders of dignity; and people are seeking this genuine connection. In a world full of anxiety and unrest, community members are still hopeful. They need spaces that welcome individuality, cultivate resilience, equip future generations, and honor human rights as the tide that lifts all boats. Alliance San Diego recognizes that we are all born with the same degree of dignity as we build new structures that fortify our democracy.
Alliance San Diego is standing on dignity to shape the future and we need your support. The Claiming Dignity Fundraising Campaign [[link removed]] aims to raise $150,000 . These funds will not only boost the capacity of our staff, but it will expand our Start With Dignity workshops. It will also help us meet the challenges in front of us from fighting for public policies that help our communities thrive to protecting the human rights of the most vulnerable. We are actively pulling levers of change that address the need for true recovery, resilience, and renewal. Every arm of the organization directs its time and skill to build collective power to create a more inclusive democracy, and we need your help.
