First Liberty
Government officials in Petersburg, Virginia are preventing a special
Memorial Day mass from being held in Poplar Grove National Cemetery.
This service has been held annually by the Knights of Columbus since
at least the 1960s. It's a historically significant and
commemorative event honoring America's fallen heroes.
But park officials are denying the Knights a permit to hold the
service in the cemetery, citing a new outrageous policy that
designates "religious services" as prohibited
"demonstrations."
This blatant and unlawful discrimination not only tramples on our
First Amendment rights but undermines religious liberty.
That's why we filed a federal lawsuit against the National Park
Service to reverse course and allow this religious service to be held
this weekend.
We are taking this fight for religious freedom to court on Thursday to
make sure that the Knights of Columbus can honor the fallen this
Memorial Day weekend.
Instead of being canceled, the Knights of Columbus should be granted
the opportunity to remember and pray for those who have made the
ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.
Their long-standing tradition that honors the faith of our military
service members must be allowed to continue.
But we need your help to win this fight.
With the hearing tomorrow and less than a week until Memorial Day,
your support now will give us the resources we need to take the fight
for faith to the National Park Service.
Will you stand with the Knights of Columbus and all our fallen heroes
this Memorial Day as we defend their right to religious freedom?
