In a cynical attempt to win elections, the GOP has been creating confusion and fear around transgender and nonbinary kids who are the most vulnerable to bullying, mental health issues, and suicide.
These tactics are truly a new low, and they’re having real consequences for communities across the country, including a record number of anti-LGBTQ laws being brought at every level of government, and an increase in bullying and hate crimes.
And while I’m proud that Colorado is a place where all kids and families can feel supported and protected, far too many aren’t as lucky.
That’s why I will always stand up for the right of every single child, no matter who they are or how they identify, to have a safe, high-quality education that sets them up for a bright future.
I will always stand up for equality, dignity, and safety for LGBTQ+ Americans.
I will always stand up for the right of trans people to access gender-affirming health care.
And I will always fight back when my extremist colleagues try to send the message that it’s OK to discriminate against people based on who they are or who they love — because it never is.
So that’s what I believe — and it’s how I’ll vote, too.
If you’re with me, will you add your name next to mine as a supporter of the Equality Act? This is one of the most important pieces of legislation in the country for protecting the right of every person in America, no matter who they are or who they love, to live as they are — openly, safely, and with equality and dignity.
