Dear John,
We know that early childhood professionals, particularly teachers, are suffering from burn out, lack of funding, limited opportunities for advancement, and in general, are struggling to find the joy in teaching that brought so many of them to the profession.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month – so our message for you this month is that we see you, we hear you, and we support you. As the school year winds down, we hope you’ll take the time you need and deserve to rest and recharge.
Best,
Start Early Professional Learning Team |

The Professional Learning Booster
Bite-Sized Reflections for Social-Emotional Learning Years after the pandemic, teachers are still worried about the state of children’s social and emotional growth…
That’s where Reflectable comes in - a simple way for early educators to add reflective practice for social and emotional teaching in 10 minutes a week.
Reflectable harnesses the power of incremental change to dramatically increase teachers’ impact on child behavior in areas educators decide matter most. The result is fewer challenging behaviors, improved positive outcomes, and increased teacher satisfaction.
Newly released crosswalks show how Reflectable social-emotional learning (SEL) practices support teachers to implement CLASS, Pyramid Model and Conscious Discipline.

Partner Spotlight
A Sustainable Approach to Achieving Stronger Child Outcomes The Center: Early Childhood Professional Learning (ECPL) serves as a significant source of PD support to state-funded early childhood programs in Illinois. They identified the importance of organizational culture, climate, and belonging as key ingredients when helping early childhood programs improve child outcomes. ECPL partners with Start Early to provide professional learning to coaches and T/TA providers on evidence-based organization-wide best practices called the Start Early Essentials.
Using a combination of asynchronous microlearnings and virtual facilitated communities of practice, Start Early is helping ECPL build foundational knowledge among a cadre of statewide T/TA providers. By weaving the practices from the Start Early Essentials into their existing professional learning infrastructure (T/TA, standards, monitoring, etc.), ECPL is building a sustainable approach to supporting administrators, instructional leaders, teachers and family educators to achieve stronger student outcomes.
