We have just a few weeks to pass the New York State Lead Paint Right to Know Act ( S.2353A/ A.4820A), so WE ACT and Lead Free Kids NY are teaming up for a call relay asking the Senate Majority to bring the Lead Paint Right to Know up for a vote, thereby helping prevent future Childhood Lead Poisoning! Call relays are a simple and effective advocacy tool to ensure that policy-makers are hearing the same message from many people over and over. Plus it only takes five minutes. The instructions are all in this spreadsheet, you just need to sign up for the date(s) and time(s) that work for you.
Current law requires that sellers or lessors of pre-1978 housing stock tell buyers or renters if they know that there is lead-based paint in the residence, but it does not require or incentivize testing for lead-based paint. The Lead Paint Right to Know Act, which will ensure that testing happens and close the loophole that allows property owners to avoid knowing. The test results will also be sent to the New York State Department of Health, where they will slowly compile a list of homes that have lead present.
