Limited Effects of Telemedicine on Spending
Telemedicine use remains substantially higher than it was before the COVID-19 pandemic, although it has fallen from pandemic highs.
In the May issue of Health Affairs, Carter Nakamoto of Harvard Medical School and coauthors explore the association of greater telemedicine use ([link removed] ) across health systems with utilization, spending, and quality.
The authors determine that despite concerns about telemedicine's convenience leading to more visits, the increases in usage were relatively small.
They share that the effects of "telemedicine on quality and spending could change as technology improves, health systems optimize telemedicine services, or patient demand grows."
