It's Rudy Salas. I’m the Democrat running to flip California's 22nd Congressional District and defeat my extremist opponent David Valadao.

I want to share more about why I believe we're in a strong position to flip this seat. But first, I want to tell you my story and why I'm in this race. I come from a family of farmworkers here in the Central Valley.

My grandfather immigrated through the Bracero Program in the 1940s. When I was younger, I would wake up before dawn to help my dad in the fields.

Growing up, we were often told that the ag industry, and the workers like us, were “feeding the nation.”

But when it came to the challenges we faced, like access to clean water, fair wages, and quality healthcare, communities like ours were often left behind.

For me, these were lived experiences. That's why after I graduated from UCLA, I decided to run for the City Council in Bakersfield and became the first Latino elected in the city's 112-year history.

It's also why when I was elected to the State Assembly, I put the needs of our community front and center -- doing legislative work to lower costs, protect wages, fight for our kids who deserve a good education, and respect our seniors so that they retire with the dignity they deserve.

I never imagined I'd go from working in the fields to running to become the first Latino elected to represent the Central Valley in Congress. But now that I'm here, I'm going to fight for our communities harder than ever.

My campaign to unseat David Valadao is one of the most important races in our broader effort to retake Congress from the extremists who've put our community last in Washington.

In 2022, we came closer than any other Democratic challenger in California to flipping a red seat. This year, we're going to finish the job, but I can't do this alone:
