LANSING ? Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced today that Cassandra Alvera Gilleylen (a.k.a. Cassandra Alvera Bowens), 52, of Flint, has been charged with 30 counts of the Unauthorized Practice of a Health Profession, a 4-year felony, and three counts of Identity Theft, a 5-year felony.?
Gilleylen was charged after an investigation into a complaint alleging she worked as a Registered Nurse at three Oakland County nursing facilities when she was not licensed as an R.N.? The investigation established that Gilleylen worked under the name of Cassandra Alvera Bowens as an R.N. at Mission Point of Clarkston, Mission Point of Holly, and Wellbridge of Clarkston from September 24, 2023, through March 5, 2024.? It is alleged that Gilleylen was not an R.N. while working at these facilities and did not possess the requisite licensure or educational background.?
?Licenses to practice as a health care professional exist primarily to protect people from harm,? said Nessel.? ?Schemes to avoid licensing requirements are dangerous, and my department takes them very seriously.? ??
Gilleylen was charged in the 52-2 District Court in Oakland County and arraigned before Magistrate Michael Bosnic. ?She was granted a $75,000.00 personal recognizance bond and is next due in court for a Probable Cause Conference that is scheduled for June 4th at 2 p.m. and a preliminary examination is scheduled for June 11th at 2 p.m.?
The Attorney General?s Health Care Fraud Division (HCFD) handled this case for the Department. The HCFD is the federally certified Medicaid Fraud Control Unit for Michigan, and it receives 75% of its funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under a grant award totaling $5,541,992 for the fiscal year 2024. The remaining 25% percent, totaling $1,847,326 is funded by the State of Michigan. ?

Please note: For all criminal proceedings, a criminal charge is merely an allegation. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. The Department does not provide booking photos.
