During my time in the Senate, I was the only Democratic senator representing a rural district. With every rural elected we added – like Representatives McLachlan and Velasco – issues like the future of water and the high cost of living got more attention and more solutions.
I’m proud we have come so far in competing and winning in rural areas, but we have so much more work to do. We need to be competing at EVERY SINGLE LEVEL – school boards, county commissioners, town councils, and sheriffs.
That is why I am thrilled to see the Colorado Democratic Party making a concerted effort to grow our base in Western Colorado. In order to win these seats, we must be able to invest, as a party, in recruiting candidates, turning out Democratic voters, expanding our base, and getting our message to voters in every corner of Colorado.
And we need your help to do this. DemWest will be a celebration of being a Democrat on the best slope – The West Slope. With farm-to-table food, friends, and live music, it is sure to be a great night and incredible opportunity to invest in the Democratic Party’s efforts to compete in every square foot of Colorado.
So come join me for a summer banquet at a vineyard in Palisade. It will be great to have old and new friends to toast (with local wine of course) to the future and all that we can do when we do it together.
