WBC Appoints UW-SAREC Director, Steve Paisley, PhD., as Liaison Member
*Cheyenne, May 21, 2024 -* Wyoming Beef Council appointed Steve Paisley, PhD., as a Liaison Member at their April meeting in Riverton. Dr. Paisley is the director of the University of Wyoming's Sustainable Agriculture Research and Extension Center (SAREC), and the Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) Coordinator for the state of Wyoming.
BQA is a nationally coordinated, state implemented program that provides systematic information to beef producers and beef consumers. BQA is based in common sense husbandry techniques coupled with scientific knowledge to raise cattle under optimum management and environmental conditions. BQA guidelines are designed to ensure beef consumers can have trust and confidence in the way the beef they purchase was raised.
Dr. Paisley has been the Wyoming BQA Coordinator since 2002. He routinely does 5 to 7 trainings per year across the state. These include individual ranch trainings, extension meetings and coordinated sessions with the Wyoming Stock Growers Association and other industry partners.
Dr. Paisley grew up in Wyoming and has a B.S. and M.S. in Animal Science, both from the University of Wyoming. He earned a PhD. in Ruminant Nutrition from Oklahoma State University. He worked as the Extension Beef Cattle Specialist for UW beginnining in 2001 and was named SAREC Director in 2017.
In addition to his work with the University of Wyoming and the BQA program, Dr. Paisley and his wife Carrie, along with their children live on and manage a ranch north of Wheatland that was established in 1888.
If you are interested in earning a BQA certificate or would just like more information about the BQA program and what it means to beef producers and beef consumers alike, please contact the Wyoming Beef Council at 307-777-7396 or email
