On Monday, Illinois Review Editor-in-Chief and Newsmax political commentator Mark Vargas appeared on the conservative news channel to discuss the Trump trial – calling it a “circus” as the prosecution’s case falls apart after their star witnesses lose all credibility on the stand during President Donald Trump’s historic criminal trial in New York City.

Appearing on Monday during a breaking news segment on Newsmax, Vargas noted the absurdity of the case, saying,

“I think there’s no question that the prosecution is really grasping at straws and it doesn’t take a legal scholar to see what’s happening here – and there’s a problem when your two star witnesses – your two key witnesses – both Stormy Daniels and Michael Cohen are proven liars.”

Vargas also pointed out that both star witnesses personally “profited” off President Trump – the defendant in this case, by promoting “merchandise saying ‘let’s put the 45th President of the United States Donald Trump – let’s put him behind bars – let’s put him in jail’.”

The judge overseeing the trial – Judge Juan Merchan – has yet to address glaring “conflicts of interest” as Vargas pointed out – bringing into serious question the judge’s inability to conceal his political bias where the defendant is a former U.S. president and the presumptive Republican nominee for president in the 2024 presidential election.

“This has been nothing but a circus and the fact that this judge who made a very small donation – but it’s a donation nonetheless to Joe Biden’s presidential campaign in 2020 is real problematic – and it does represent a conflict of interest – his daughter being a Democratic political operative. And so when you put all of these things together, the prosecution is in real trouble and I think the jury is going to be smart enough to see that they are also in trouble with all of these blatant conflicts of interest.”

Vargas then called the trial a “circus that should no longer continue.”

The IR Editor-in-Chief and political commentator has appeared regularly on Newsmax during the trial offering insights and commentary.
