John, the National Audit Office just dropped some shocking numbers on the real cost of Brexit’s new border checks:

The UK government is forking out a jaw-dropping £4.7 billion on border management programmes. 

On top of that, the extra customs paperwork is costing our businesses £7.5 billion a year. 

And guess what? New trade deals like the CPTPP aren't recouping any of the costs, adding just 0.04% to our GDP.

What we're doing about it

Brexit is hurting us all:

• Economic Growth: The UK economy is growing 5% less since 2016, which is about £113 billion a year, or £1,000 per household.
• Public Finances: We’re missing out on £40 billion in tax revenue because of Brexit.
• Cost of Living: Extra Brexit-related paperwork is adding £250 to the average UK household’s grocery bill each year.

But we’re not just here just to complain—we’re here to help fix it.

Through the UK Trade and Business Commission we made 114 recommendations to turn this around. From streamlining customs to cutting trade barriers and rejoining programmes like Horizon, there are clear steps we can take - and some we already have.
