A judge is supposed to act in a way that enables all parties and lawyers appearing before the Court to believe they will be treated fairly. Any court — but especially the highest court in the land — should command respect, dignity, and integrity. Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas have brazenly destroyed this bedrock principle.
Justice Alito was recently found to have flown an upside-down American flag – a symbol used by supporters of Donald Trump who challenged the legitimacy of Joe Biden’s 2020 victory – outside of his home after the violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th. |
And now, he’s set to hear several cases about that election and the January 6th attack. I am personally very concerned about his ability to adjudicate this case fairly. This all comes on the heels of a never-ending news cycle about Justice Clarence Thomas accepting bribes as a sitting member of the Supreme Court. |
