Success at this year’s COP29 in Azerbaijan hinges on the agreement of a robust new climate finance goal that meets the needs of climate-vulnerable countries.  But replacing the existing commitment of $100 billion annually with a goal that’s far more ambitious will be no small feat.

For climate-vulnerable developing countries already dealing with an increasing number of extreme weather events, such as the recent floods in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and Nairobi, Kenya, it’s imperative that developed countries take concrete action to rebuild trust and solidarity, and offer the level of financial commitment and support that’s truly needed for developing countries to transition to a low-emissions, climate-resilient future.
