Montanans are Eligible to Receive Expanded
Unemployment for Coronavirus As Soon As This Week
Montana workers are struggling right
now. With layoffs and job loss because of the coronavirus, folks are
worrying about whether or not they can pay the rent and other bills
this week or if they can afford groceries for their
families.
51,545 Montanans that have filed for unemployment since
March 15th. That is more than the entire population of
Bozeman. These hardworking Montanans and their families are hurting.
Thankfully, some help to make ends meet is on its way.
I led the fight in the U.S. Senate to expand federal
unemployment insurance for Montana during this global
pandemic.
During my Statewide Townhalls on
Tuesday and Thursday, I announced that Montanans will be
eligible, as soon as this week, to receive expanded unemployment
benefits made possible through the Coronavirus Economic Recovery
Package. This means an additional $600
per week for Montanans on unemployment.
Montanans looking
to apply for unemployment during the Coronavirus pandemic should apply
at https://montanaworks.gov/ or call 406-444-2840.
During Senate negotiations of the Coronavirus Economic
Recovery Package, I urged both
Leader McConnell and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to include
expanded and robust federal unemployment insurance in the final
package.
I also
fought to secure $1 billion in administrative funding so folks can get
their unemployment checks quicker during this
pandemic.
