The fight against the coronavirus is being led by mayors. To help our cities and towns, Bloomberg Philanthropies launched the Coronavirus Local Response Initiative, and has worked to bring local leaders together -- virtually -- with public health experts and each other to share solutions.

This week President Barack Obama joined Mike Bloomberg and local leaders for our virtual meeting of mayors. President Obama advised mayors to be honest, compassionate, and to listen to experts above all:

"Speak the truth. Speak it clearly. Speak it with compassion. Speak it with empathy for what folks are going through. The biggest mistake any of us can make in these situations is to misinform, particularly when we're requiring people to make sacrifices and take actions that might not be their natural inclination."
