Team,
The unfortunate reality of living in America is that gun violence continuously tears our communities apart. How many more high school graduations, elementary schools, houses of worship, outlet malls, and more must be marred by violence before we take more aggressive action on gun safety legislation?
I want to be frank with you. This doesn’t have to be our reality. We can – and should – do more to prevent these tragedies. Our Bipartisan Safer Communities Act was an important first step in addressing the gun violence epidemic, but there’s a lot more we can do.
That’s why Senator Kaine and I introduced the Virginia Plan to Reduce Gun Violence Act, legislation that would enact a series of gun violence prevention measures federally. Will you sign my petition in support of this bill? Your voice is essential in demanding that Congress take action on gun safety.
Our bill would limit the purchase of handguns, require gun owners to report lost or stolen firearms, prevent firearm access to minors, increase protections for victims of domestic violence by closing the “boyfriend loophole” – which currently allows abusive non-spousal partners to possess firearms – and establish a risk protection order to remove firearms from individuals who pose a high threat of harming themselves or others.
Deadly mass shootings don’t have to be our reality, folks. Americans want commonsense guardrails around gun ownership. Senator Kaine and I have a plan to put them in place.
Sign on now to tell Congress to pass the Virginia Plan to Reduce Gun Violence Act >>>
Thank you for making your voice heard,
Mark Warner
