Team,

Last week, we commemorated the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, a day that feels deeply personal for me.

Early last year I married my best friend — my husband Vann. My wedding day was easily the happiest day of my life. But, right now, some extreme politicians believe we should not have the same rights and responsibilities all Americans deserve.

Team, it's no secret that in recent years and months, we have seen extremist politicians amplify their attacks against the LGBTQ+ community, both here in New Hampshire and nationwide.

These laws undermine the principle of equal protection under the law. They give license to discriminate and segregate LGBTQ+ individuals, whether it's in schools or other settings. They allow parental opt-outs for LGBTQ+ topics in schools and even deny basic health care and legal recognition to transgender individuals.

But let me be crystal clear: The relentless attacks from anti-LGBTQ+ legislators have NEVER been about "protecting" Americans. It's ALWAYS been about bigotry, hatred, and stripping countless LGBTQ+ individuals of their right to live openly and freely as themselves.

As the first openly gay member of Congress from New Hampshire and as a co-chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus, I carry a deep commitment to fighting for the dignity and equality of all Americans, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. While we've made incredible progress since I began my first term in the House, many of our LGBTQ+ community members still don’t have the same legal protections guaranteed to others.

To honor the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, I hope you'll join me in recommitting to protecting our LGBTQ+ community and ensuring every American receives equal treatment under the law. Please add your name next to mine.

Onward,

Chris
