John,
As Donald Trump considers potential Vice President running mates, Jim Jordan is desperately pandering to the hard right MAGA mob—going so far as to use his post in Congress to defend rioters convicted of attacking and hospitalizing police officers during the January 6th insurrection.
Jordan recently announced that he was looking into how Ronald McAbee was “treated” in a D.C. jail in 2022, implying that he was unjustly pepper sprayed by guards.
McAbee, who at the time of the January 6 riot was an off-duty Tennessee sheriff's deputy, was convicted in February 2024 for five felonies, a veritable laundry list of anti-police and anti-law and order offenses, including:
-
Assaulting, resisting, or impeding an officer,
-
Civil disorder,
-
Entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon,
-
Disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon,
-
and engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon.
