Friend --
Bernie Sanders has suspended his
campaign for President. As a result, our East Bay DSA independent
campaign for Bernie is officially over. See East Bay DSA's official
statement on the close of our campaign here.
Despite this, our hard work won
most of the East Bay for Bernie - a massive win, especially
considering Bernie lost the East Bay in 2016. What did it take to
help win the Bay for Bernie? To recap:
- In
December 2018 we passed a resolution calling on Bernie to
run.
- Since
that time, we knocked on over 30,000 doors, and made over 5,000
positive identifications of Bernie voters.
- We had
dozens of crowd canvasses, debate watch parties, fundraisers, and
distributed canvasses.
- Over 730
people volunteered for the East Bay for DSA campaign including with
our distributed canvassing program which hosted over 100
canvasses!
- We
expanded our canvassing operation through the Build the Bay for Bernie
campaign, going to different locations in the East Bay each
weekend.
- We
helped start 4 new Youth DSA chapters.
-
Our Art team created banners, signs, and a beautiful Bernie
Mobile to canvass the neighborhoods
- We
raised over $12k and opened our new office!
In sum, we talked to tens of
thousands of working-class people in the East Bay about Democratic
Socialism and our vision for a better world. In an area with some of
the highest rents and most extreme income inequality in the world, we
brought in hundreds of people to socialist organizing and together
took on the billionaire class.
Our movement for democratic
socialism has grown so much stronger and will outlast the end of
Bernie’s campaign. Now is the time to keep up the fight! Our chapter
is about much more than the Bernie campaign, and here are some ways
you should get involved right now:
The pictures below help to capture
the energy and enthusiasm for our campaign, which was the
largest DSA for Bernie campaign in the
country!
