Join tomorrow's 1-hour webinar that could save you hundreds of hours of paperwork and fill your life with more joy! In today's news: Join tomorrow's 1-hour webinar that could save you hundreds of hours of charitable giving paperwork -- There's only one week left to nominate an Arlington change-maker for the Spirit of Community Award -- Plus, learn about Arlington County's first gun buyback event (and how you can help). "There are natural times of year when we think about giving, leading up to tax season and at the end of the year, but we ask the nonprofits and educational organizations when our support will have the most impact." In tomorrow's virtual discussion, Simplify Your Giving, learn how one Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) fundholder uses her DAF as a resource, not just for impact, but for joy. And who doesn't want a little more joy in their life? Not to mention a lot less paperwork and record-keeping for your charitable giving. With a DAF, you can donate to, and get a tax receipt for, a dozen (or more) organizations from one easy place (talk about joy!). Use this link or the button below to register for tomorrow's 11 AM (ET) virtual event, and please send any questions you have about DAFs (or charitable giving in general) to Christy at [email protected] at any time. But sadly with 1.2 guns for every US citizen, the possibility for gun violence exists everywhere. To be proactive, the Arlington County Police Department and the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office have implemented a comprehensive gun safety program county-wide. Currently, they conduct significant community outreach focused on young people; trigger locks are distributed free of charge; and the Community Engagement division of APS provides public education through meetings, materials, and training. On June 8, 2024, the County will take the next step in this program by holding its first gun buy-back event. Watch this special video message about the event from Kris Brown; Arlington resident, mother, and President of Brady: United Against Gun Violence.
