Civic Season, 2024
June 15 - July 4, 2024
________________________________________________________________________
July 4th commemorates the moment a new nation was born, based on ideals that each generation since has worked to bring to life: freedom, equality, justice, and opportunity. Juneteenth, celebrated just a few weeks earlier, reminds us of the struggles and hard-won victories in our ongoing journey to form a “more perfect union.” Civic Season [ [link removed] ] unites our oldest federal holiday with our newest, mobilizing a movement to understand our past and shape our future.
Join the Wyoming State Museum along with a collaborative of local and statewide organizations for a summertime celebration of who we are as a nation, how we got here and where we want to go next.
Whether you're a seasoned Civic Superhero or you're just starting on your path to Civic engagement, our five FREE summer events invite you to explore your strengths, reflect on your ideals, and discover how you can amplify your voice to make a difference.

Dino Day
Saturday, July 13
10 am - 2 pm
________________________________________________________________________
Join us for our 4th Annual Dino Day, taking place on July 13 from 10 am - 2 pm.
This is a Family Day you won’t want to miss, with incredible partners and paleo experts coming from all over the state to teach you everything you need to know about Wyoming in the time of the dinosaurs.
Fossil Butte National Monument, Wyoming State Geological Survey, UW Williams Conservatory, Rocky Mountain Herbarium, and the UW Geological Museum are all showing up with games, activities, and opportunities to learn about the prehistoric past. Plus, visit our "field of dinos" to see how big (and small!) some of your favorite dinos were, explore our tunnel through time, see our resident triceratops, make dino-themed crafts, play games, and even meet modern day dinosaurs in our chicken petting zoo!
*Register here!* [ [link removed] ]
Family Days are generously sponsored by Scheels in Johnstown, CO. Thanks to their support, these events are always free and open to everyone!

Wyoming Humanities Booth
This month we’re highlighting Wyoming Humanities, the state’s affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities and an independent 501(c)3 non-profit governed by a board of private citizens who believe the humanities can help us better understand the issues of our times.
That’s a mouthful, but what’s important to know is that Wyoming Humanities awards thousands of dollars to non-profit organizations and projects that allow Wyoming’s creative and cultural sector to thrive. Wyoming was one of the very first states to develop a humanities council, and many other states have modeled their own humanities programs around ours. Cool, huh!?
In 2021, Wyoming Humanities awarded $408,940 to organizations around the state who were struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The State Museum was one of the lucky recipients, receiving money that allowed us to hire a part time staff member to help with visitor services and events.
As we were planning for Civic Season 2023, we reached out to Wyoming Humanities again. They enthusiastically accepted our request for sponsorship in 2023, and agreed to help create these events again in 2024! Not only have they financially supported the events, but they have provided the invaluable Lucas Fralick, Program Coordinator, as a key member of our planning committee.
Whether you are an individual looking for an amazing cause to donate [ [link removed] ] to, an organization seeking grant funding [ [link removed] ], or just want to hear about amazing humanities events [ [link removed] ] around the state, Wyoming Humanities has something for you! Check out their webpage [ [link removed] ] and sign up for their email list [ [link removed] ] to stay informed.
