Hi Friend –
As part of our AI video series shining the light on present-day harms of AI — from gig workers to the climate crisis — our goal in this email series has been to make clear how AI is already harming our society. Our final video shares the impacts of AI on creators such as writers and artists.
We spoke with an Emmy-nominated screenwriter to understand the true impact of AI on the filmmaking industry – and how AI is quickly taking humanity out of the art of creation and limiting professional opportunities for writers. We hope you’ll watch – and then share – the video on your favorite social media channels today.

The issue of AI was among the primary drivers of the 148-day strike in Hollywood last year by Writers Guild of America (WGA) members. While the WGA won some important concessions in that fight, the rapidly developing technology of AI poses a threat to the future professions and livelihoods of creatives.
The unfortunate truth is that the AI industry is quickly being dominated by the same Big Tech companies that control the vast majority of our lives online today – and who have exhibited little concern over the real-world harms that their technologies are already causing.
We’re hopeful that this can and will change in the future with AI-related policy nationally that addresses these issues head on. But if that legislation isn’t well-informed by the downstream negative effects that are already occurring as a result of AI, it will miss the mark at a critical time for regulating this new technology.
Thank you so much for helping us spread the word today,

We see the irony of asking you to take action on the same platforms we’re fighting to hold accountable, but they are… well… dominant. We have to reach people where they are in order to level the playing field -- and we’re ready to bring the fight right to their own platforms.
