[1]Ayanna Pressley
Earlier today, Ayanna joined more than 50 of her colleagues in sending a
letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, House Minority Leader Kevin
McCarthy, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and Senate Minority
Leader Chuck Schumer urging them to prioritize monthly recurring payments
for the American people during the COVID-19 crisis.
Nearly 17 million people have filed for unemployment in the last three
weeks. Across the country, people in low-income communities, immigrants,
and gig and service workers — many of whom are on the front lines during
this crisis — are already at greater risk of being uninsured or
underinsured, and lack the resources to prepare and protect themselves
against the COVID-19 pandemic.
These families need — and deserve— more than a one-time, $1,200 payment.

legislation that includes monthly payments for the American people during
this crisis.

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, nearly 40% of Americans reported not
having the resources to pay for an unexpected $400 expense. In the midst
of this crisis, no one should be forced to choose between remaining in
their home, putting food on the table, or paying for critical medical
care. We need to put forth solutions as big as the problems we are
collectively facing.
We are in an unprecedented crisis and need unprecedented sense solutions.
Sending monthly payments is the best way to get money directly to those
most at-risk in this crisis.

the COVID-19 pandemic and prioritizes recurring direct cash assistance.
