"La abogada de migración Dulce García se presentó el viernes por la tarde ante las oficinas del ICE a entregar una fianza para la libertad condicional de uno de sus clientes, pero el ICE rechazó la fianza sin dar ninguna explicación.

Cuando la abogada insistió en conocer las razones de la negativa, el ICE le orientó que contactara al centro de detenciones de Otay Mesa, donde le informaron que su cliente estaba en cuarentena como potencial contagiado del virus.

Por la misma condición de cuarentena, prohibieron que el cliente de García se comunicara por teléfono."

"Immigration attorney Dulce Garcia appeared on Friday afternoon at ICE offices to provide a bond for the parole of one of her clients, but ICE rejected the bond without giving any explanation.

When the lawyer insisted on knowing the reasons for the refusal, ICE advised her to contact the Otay Mesa detention center, where they informed her that her client was in quarantine as a potential infected with the virus.

Due to the same quarantine condition, they prohibited García's client from communicating by phone."

ICE says it will review cases for release nationwide as COVID-19 spreads inside Otay Mesa Detention Center

"Immigration attorneys Kirsten Zittlau and Bashir Ghazialam filed a new federal court case on Wednesday to try to free an asylum seeker from Venezuela being held in the J pod.

Policies like cohorting “will only result in more individuals contracting the disease, becoming ill and potentially dying,” the attorneys’ complaint says.

The complaint says that detainees in the J pod were told on Tuesday that even if they pay bond that would normally allow them out of detention, they will have to wait until the group is clear of the 14-day window that will reset any time another person in the unit becomes sick with COVID-19."
