Hello Friend,

Welcome to my e-newsletter, the Ready Room. As a retired Naval Aviator, the Ready Room is special to me because it’s where fellow aviators meet to brief and debrief missions. STANDING UP FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT HEROES

Image

National Police Week honors the law enforcement officers who risk their lives every day to protect our communities. Tragically, the border crisis has made wearing the badge more dangerous than ever with the escalation of ambush-style attacks, the deadly fentanyl crisis and the more than 615 thousand criminal illegal immigrants released into our neighborhoods.

This Police Week, I joined House Republicans to support our law enforcement, voting for:

  • H.R. 7343, to ensure Immigration Customs Enforcement detains illegal immigrants charged with or convicted of assaulting a law enforcement officer;
  • H.R. 8146, to require the Attorney General report to Congress on how the border crisis impacts federal, state and local law enforcement;
  • H.R. 7581, to require the Department of Justice to collect adequate data on the rise in violent attacks against police; and
  • H.R. 7530, to prohibit the DC Council from pursuing soft-on-crime sentencing policies.

ENSURING CRITICAL DEFENSE WEAPON DELIVERY

Image

President Biden’s flip-flopping has sent mixed signals about U.S. support of our ally, Israel. Before taking office, the President suggested he would never withhold military aid from Israel. Now, in a complete about-face, he has withheld critical weapons to Israel, tying their hands as they defend themselves against Hamas. That's why I voted for H.R. 8369, the Israel Security Assistance Support Act, to compel President Biden to deliver these shipments as soon as possible. This bill also:

  • Withholds funds from the Secretary of Defense, Secretary of State and the National Security Council until suspended defense articles are delivered;
  • Reaffirms Israel’s right to self-defense; and
  • Requires the Biden Administration provide explanation for their decision to block security assistance.

SECURING AMERICAN SUPPLY CHAINS

From the semiconductors that power our mobile devices and vehicles to animal feed, active pharmaceuticals and even pork supply, Communist China controls large segments of critical U.S. supply chains. This reliance on China is an imminent threat to the health of our economy, our national security and our food supply. America is stronger and safer when we meet our own needs. Last week, to help grow our domestic manufacturing base and secure critical domestic supply chains, I voted for:

  • H.R. 5390, to direct the Secretary of Commerce to study how to increase manufacturing in rural regions of the U.S., particularly products that are key to our critical infrastructure sectors; and
  • H.R. 6571, to create a supply chain resiliency program to advance the competitiveness of domestic manufacturing and prepare for shocks to supply chains.
