ACLU Supporter, it's Anthony, executive director of the ACLU, reaching out to you on our first annual ACLU Giving Day.
For over 100 years, the ACLU has shown up wherever and whenever our civil liberties are threatened – and with Donald Trump talking clearly about his authoritarian plans for a second term, we've never seen a threat as great as the one we're facing right now.
During his disastrous first term, we filed over 400 lawsuits to preserve our democracy – and if he takes office again, we'll show up even stronger. But we can't do it alone.
Please, if you’ve been waiting to make your first donation, now is the moment. Contribute today, on our first-ever ACLU Giving Day, and your gift will go twice as far to help the ACLU defend all of our civil liberties – from free speech to abortion access to LGBTQ rights. <[link removed]>

Today, we're celebrating the ACLU's 100-plus-year legacy of showing up to protect our rights:
* In 1942, when 120,000 Japanese Americans were sent to internment camps, the ACLU, led by its California affiliates, stood alone in speaking out about this atrocity.
* In 1954, we joined forces with the NAACP to challenge racial segregation in public schools. As a result, Brown v. Board of Education ended the era of “separate but equal” in a major victory for racial justice.
* In 1973, the ACLU's General Counsel Norman Dorsen was part of a team of lawyers representing the plaintiffs in Roe v. Wade, arguing for the constitutional right to abortion.
* In 2023, after Alabama enacted a new congressional map that discriminated against Black voters, the ACLU won the fight at the Supreme Court to force Alabama to redraw the map.
Time after time, the ACLU has shown up to hold elected officials accountable, demand the protection of basic human rights, and fight for the expansion of civil liberties. We've done it before, and we'll do it again.
Today, with pregnant people and doctors facing threats for providing abortion care, migrants unconstitutionally being denied asylum, voting rights being threatened, books being banned, and freedom of speech under attack – our expertise and commitment to fighting for our fundamental freedoms is needed now more than ever.
