FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 118, Issue #65 Dear Friends/Amigos, The government of Javier Milei in Argentina is proving itself to be the moral reference for our region of the world. His steadfast dedication to the principles of individual liberty, rule of law, and free markets not only serve as an example to other democracies in Latin America, but also bodes well for the U.S.-Argentina relationship. I had a chance to catch up with the Argentine Foreign Minister Diana Mondino about this very topic. More on that meeting below. I also had the chance to welcome Yoel and Mari, a Cuban couple documenting their journey in the United States, to the U.S. Capitol. Seeing their appreciation for the things we in America can sometimes take for granted reminds me of the reason I decided to become a public servant: To serve you in my community. Sincerely/Atentamente, María E. Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) MY MEETING IN WASHINGTON WITH ARGENTINE FOREIGN MINISTER DIANA MONDINO! Last week, I had the chance to meet with the Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs, Diana Mondino, along with other top Argentine officials. We had the chance to discuss shared issues of interest between Miami and Argentina, among other things. It is clear that President Javier Milei prioritizes the relationship between his country and ours, and I am thrilled to work with him and officials like Minister Mondino to expand the fruits of liberty both at home and abroad. You're welcome back anytime, Diana! DEFENDING GLOBAL INTERNET FREEDOM! Like many of you, I am concerned about the growing tendency for authoritarian governments around the world to censor Internet usage to control the local population. We see this every time the Cuban people decide to protest for their basic liberties, and how the regime cuts off Internet access to prevent them from organizing. I introduced the Global Internet Freedom Act with my colleague, Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA) to reinforce that Internet freedom is fundamental to human rights. It will require the State Department to report on the state of Internet freedom around the world, so we in Congress can have the most accurate information on how governments are actively restricting the liberty of its citizens. Read more about the Global Internet Freedom Act here. WELCOMING YOEL AND MARI TO THE U.S. CAPITOL! A highlight from this last week for me was getting to meet Yoel and Mari, a Cuban-American couple documenting their experience in America. You might remember them from one of their viral videos showing Yoel receiving his first paycheck in the United States. The video reminded me and many of you, my constituents, just how lucky we are to live in this amazing country. In Cuba, many of the things we take for granted are simply not available due to the continuing oppression of the Cuban regime. Getting to show Yoel and Mari around the Capitol while discussing the beauty of American democracy at work was a blessing, and I do hope they come back soon to visit! CASEWORK TESTIMONIALS!
