John, this is not a headline I ever imagined I’d have to read:
'I’m not worried about our schools’: Florida Lawmakers vote to lower minimum age to purchase AR-15s
–Orlando Weekly
Not only did lawmakers in Florida vote to make it easier for young people – kids our students’ ages – to access automatic weapons… but one of those lawmakers said he isn’t worried about the impact on schools.
John, I’m worried. Teachers are worried. We’re worried sick about keeping our students, colleagues, and selves safe if suddenly, it’s easier for our kids to buy a gun than their supplies for class.
This is why we’re here. We’re holding trainings, attending conferences, and building a movement to finally change things for the better.
But it’s expensive work, John. We’re teachers, not professional fundraisers. And the people who “aren’t worried” have the backing of the billion-dollar gun lobby on their side. We don’t have that kind of corporate money.
What we have is YOU. And we’re counting on your urgent help.
So I have to ask: Will you rush a donation right now to help Teachers Unify keep sounding the alarm about the threats we face – and fight for real, tangible change to keep our schools safer? >>
Endlessly grateful,
Abbey Clements
