VIDEO OF THE DAY: OMG: Rudy Giuliani taunts prosecutor… INSTANTLY regrets it

Talk about f*cking around and finding out!

US students, once again, have led the way. Now we must all stand up for Palestinians
If want to be on the right side of history, writes Osita Nwanevu for the Guardian, we should look to American college students. "Over the past 60 years, [they] passed every great moral test American foreign policy has forced upon the public, including the Vietnam war, the question of relations with apartheid South Africa, and the Iraq war. Student activists were at the heart of the black civil rights movement from the very beginning. To much derision and abuse, they pushed for more rights, protections and respect for women and queer people on their campuses than the wider world was long willing to provide." Now student protestors are once again taking a stand — this time against the targeted slaughter of civilians and systematic mass starvation in Gaza — and once again they are being subjected to derision and abuse from a sneering political media machine in order to obfuscate and undermine the righteousness of their message and justify the humanitarian crisis that drives them to protest. "Whenever all of this ends — whenever we find ourselves ready to survey what’s left of Gaza and its people and ask whether we could have done more to prevent the use of our weapons and our money in their destruction — what will we have to say for ourselves?"

She campaigned for a Texas school board seat as a GOP hard-liner. Now she’s rejecting her party’s extremism
After Courtney Gore won her election for the school board of Granbury Independent School District, she set about examining the school curriculum, spending long nights and weekends on the hunt for evidence of the leftist indoctrination that she was told was rampant in the public schooling system by right-wing propagandists — and had been telling others as the host of a right-wing radio talk show. She was shocked to discover that it was all a load of bullshit. "The pervasive indoctrination she had railed against simply did not exist. Children were not being sexualized, and she could find no examples of critical race theory, an advanced academic concept that examines systemic racism. She’d examined curriculum related to social-emotional learning, which has come under attack by Christian conservatives who say it encourages children to question gender roles and prioritizes feelings over biblical teachings. Instead, Gore found the materials taught children 'how to be a good friend, a good human,'" reports ProPublica. Gore quickly went to tell her fellow conservatives, thinking that they'd be relieved that their kids weren't under attack. Sadly, and predictably, she said they were indifferent, even dismissive, because “it didn’t fit the narrative that they were trying to push.” Reality doesn't matter to these people, only power and its use, and we need to remember that when it comes time to fight back.

Brett Kavanaugh: Ending school segregation Is a lot like ending abortion rights, if you think about it
No, it isn't actually, Brett. Turns out that while conservatives *hate* Brown v. Board of Education because it made their kids go to school with Black people, they love citing that decision in order to justify the deeply unpopular and regressive decisions that the current Trump-dominated Supreme Court has been making over the past six years. Madiba K. Dennie explores how in a recent interview, Kavanagh used Brown and Miranda v. Arizona to explain how the court's decisions were very unpopular at the time but are now “landmarks now that we accept as parts of the fabric of America, and the fabric of American constitutional law," with the implication of course being that the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the gutting of the Voting Rights Act, and every other awful ruling are just evidence that the American people are once again wrong. But Dennie sees right through the hood, however, writing, "these conservative justices are trying to cloak themselves in the trappings of Brown to hide the fact that their controversial decisions are much more like Dred Scott, and regular people are reacting to the Court’s campaigns of dehumanization and subordination accordingly."
