“Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.”
Psalm 119:105
Friend,
Some of the most influential and challenging messages of scripture for me come from short phrases like this one. It’s simple to understand that we need to view the Word of God as a tool to direct our steps in life. But living it out? Not always so simple. Our fleshly desires want to hold control in our own hands and make our own path. We think we know what’s best for ourselves and we get disappointed when things don’t work out, but in reality we are called to lay down our plans and desires at His feet.
He directs our steps and sometimes the hardest thing to do is to follow them, but it is also the best thing we can do. Because He knows. Listening to His voice and following His instructions leads to more than we can ask, think, or imagine, but it almost never looks like what we originally wanted or planned. Thankfully we can use His living Word and allow it to reveal the path to us, one step at a time, releasing all control and letting His light guide us.
