During yesterday's House Oversight Committee meeting we saw a disgusting new low from ultra-MAGA conspiracy theorist, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).

The committee was meeting to discuss Attorney General Merrick Garland and whether or not he could be held in contempt for not releasing tapes of President Biden's interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur.

Despite this, MTG went off on a completely unrelated tangent trying to tie Democrats to the judge in Donald Trump’s criminal hush-money case. She asked if any Democratic members of the committee had hired the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, the judge overseeing Trump’s trial. Republicans have cited Merchan’s daughter’s job as a political fundraiser as proof that Merchan can not be an impartial judge. I won't go into the hyprocrisy of Justice Alito's and Thompson's conflicts of interests and outright unethical behavior.

When Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, a strong black woman and renowned lawyer, called out MTG for bringing up topics completely outside of what the committee was meeting on, MTG stated:

“I don’t think you know what you’re here for … I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.”

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pushed back on MTG's despicable comment. But of course, MTG refused to apologize.

MTG sees powerful black women like me and Congresswoman Crockett as threats. It's why she stooped so low as to attack her physical features. Yes, black women sometimes wear long eyelashes (get over it, racist) but it has nothing to do with politics. This hatred of strong black women by the ultra-right is the same reason why my opponent Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH) relentlessly attacks Georgia DA Fani Willis.
