I also want to thank Fifth District Democrats for joining me in selecting Angela Alsobrooks as our Democratic nominee for the United States Senate. Angela is the strong, experienced, and compelling voice that Marylanders deserve in Washington. She has the personal and professional experience needed to stand up to far-right extremism, and Angela will deliver for Maryland families.

I want to be clear: in this coming election the values, character, and very soul of America are at risk. Freedom will be on the ballot this November, and I am committed to representing the interests of the Fifth District. I will continue working to bring resources and opportunities back to our community, including securing full funding for the consolidated FBI Headquarters in Greenbelt, while maintaining the best and most responsive constituent services. 

While I’m pleased to stand alongside you all in this fight for the soul of our nation, I know that our work is not over. As we unite and look toward the General Election, I am more determined than ever to help the Democratic Party take back the House of Representatives and maintain control of the Senate. Under the leadership of today’s Republican House Majority, Congress passed only 34 bills in 2023 — the lowest number of bills passed in the first year of a congressional session since the Great Depression.

There is too much at stake in our country to allow this irresponsible inaction and dysfunction to continue. I look forward to partnering with all of you to reelect President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, as well as send Angela Alsobrooks to represent Marylanders in the U.S. Senate.
