John, I hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy. As always, we’re here to help you weather this storm. And what a storm it’s been. The last few weeks has proven that environmental health, public health, and economic health are joined at the hip, and that we must elect leaders who respect science, listen to experts, and plan to keep us all safe. It's clear our current federal leadership isn't capable of handling a public health crisis, let alone a climate crisis. For more than 50 years, we have worked to protect every North Carolinian's health and quality of life by changing the faces of power, holding our leaders accountable, and empowering our communities. That work has never been more important, and it doesn't stop when our offices close. So we need your support now more than ever. Our country’s future depends on it. Let me tell you why this is so urgent. As we speak, Trump is creating back channels to let polluters shape EPA policy instead of the people. While the rest of us are focused on the immediate crisis, they continue rolling back clean car standards and other rules which protect our most vulnerable communities from coal ash, GenX, and industrial pollution. And all of this is making the climate crisis and the current respiratory pandemic worse. We’ve known for decades that communities of color and low-wealth communities bear the brunt of pollution, and that they face worse health outcomes because of it. Now a recent Harvard study shows how just a slight worsening in a community’s air quality accelerates coronavirus fatalities. But with your ongoing support, we’ll go to bat for these communities, John.
