Port of Tacoma Commission to meet May 21

Port of Tacoma Commissioners on May 21 will consider a ground lease with Tacoma Public Schools at the new Port Maritime Center [ [link removed] ] site, a performance evaluation of the Port’s Executive Director, and investments from the Local Economic Development Investment Fund [ [link removed] ]. Commissioners will also consider approval of a collective bargaining agreement for Terminal Security Officers, a security services agreement, and a proclamation recognizing Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month. A full agenda can be found here. May 7 open house for the Maritime Center a success!

Thank you to all who attended the second public open house for the Port Maritime Center on May 7. The event was held at the Foss Waterway Seaport where visitors reviewed the latest design renderings for the project and spoke with staff from the Port, Tacoma Public Schools, and TCF Architects/BNBuilders about the vision for this exciting project. May 18 marks International Day for Women in Maritime, an occasion with significant meaning for Port of Tacoma Commissioners Kristin Ang and Deanna Keller. Both say it’s important to encourage more women to join the maritime industry. “Go for it. We need more women. These are great jobs, these are great opportunities,” said Commission President Ang.
