We just got word that Speaker Mike Johnson is coming to Peoria in a few weeks to support my extremist MAGA opponent, Joe McGraw.
I can’t say I’m surprised – after all, I had the narrowest victory of any Democrat in the Midwest in 2022 and IL-17 is dead-center on the road to Republicans keeping their majority. Speaker Johnson has named me to his top-ten target list, pledging to raise millions against me and already, my opponent has received the fifth-largest investment from Speaker Johnson’s fundraising operation.
We beat outside spending from national Republicans last cycle, and together we can do it again. Contribute $5 today to secure our critical frontline seat.
While having millions of dollars raised into negative TV ads is never good, I’m actually glad Speaker Johnson is coming to Illinois. It’s important for extreme politicians like him, who’ve led Congress into chaos over the past year, to be in communities like Peoria, that are impacted by Congress’ dysfunction and inaction.
In the last year, I’ve worked hard and despite the chaos, brought home millions in funding for Peoria to build more affordable housing, improve sidewalks, and replace aging water lines. Still, there is so much more good we could do if we had a Congress that actually works.
If Speaker Johnson wants to take some time away from fundraising against me and, instead, sit down and discuss how we can make life better for Peorians, I’ll be happy to grab a coffee or a beer. I know some good spots!
But, friend, I’m not holding my breath, so instead I’m going to work as hard as I can to make sure, come January, we have a Democratic Speaker who will help me make life better for my neighbors in Central and Northwestern Illinois. That means holding onto this seat and taking back the House.
