John,
There have been so many trailblazers and pioneers before me, it made me wonder: is there anything left for me to do?
That thought came to a screeching halt in the summer of 2020 when demonstrations demanding justice for George Floyd took off, first in Minneapolis, and then across the entire country. Seeing the nonviolent power wielded by concerned communities against sometimes brutal riot police and law enforcement had a profound effect on me.
When school got cancelled during the pandemic, I went back to my hometown in New Haven County, CT to get together with friends and peers and see what we could do about the ongoing political tension.
In the course of creating a racial equality project together, I got hands-on experience that taught me invaluable skills in fundraising, community organizing, and navigating differing perspectives. When I returned to campus and declared pre-law and politics majors, my coursework cultivated and expanded these interests even more. Moving forward, I sought out every opportunity to complete political research, work on electoral campaigns, and intern for issue-driven nonprofit organizations – one of these internships being with Movement Labs!
Now, I'm here as a full-time employee, helping to grow, build, and sustain a movement making change from the ground floor on up.

It takes grace, empathy, and fervor to press forward with a progressive agenda, but that's exactly what my colleagues and I are doing and why I'm so proud to be part of this movement.
If you feel the same, I encourage you to get involved, read up, talk to friends, and chip in when we pass around the hat.
It's time to dismantle the barriers holding us back and keeping us down. That's what the progressive movement is all about!
In solidarity,
Solace
