John,
This week, the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court engaged in outright voter suppression. In a pair of rulings, both courts halted common sense efforts by Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers to expand absentee voting and move Wisconsin’s primary election day in the face of the coronavirus crisis. It’s shocking, frankly. But it means we need to focus right now on making sure that everyone across America can vote safely in November.
Nobody should have to risk their life to vote.
Washington state’s vote-by-mail system was one of the first in the nation, and it can be a model for other states as they move to vote-by-mail. Just this past Sunday, The Seattle Times ran a piece on this very issue, noting that our system is “generally touted as more secure against election hacking and its convenience as good for voter turnout.”
The logistics and costs of switching to vote-by-mail are considerable, and Congress needs to step in now to prevent another Wisconsin situation.
If you believe, like I do, that we must ensure the integrity of our election, and that the right to vote is a sacred, foundational part of a functioning democracy, then I need you to join me in demanding that Congress enact a national vote-by-mail program. >> [link removed]
This is a national grassroots movement -- and we need you. Right now, we are collecting signatures to force Congress to act. Your signature gets us one step closer. Can I count on you?
-Phil
