We’re calling for impacted poor and low-wage workers, faith leaders, labor leaders, and other advocates and advocacy partners to join us on June 29th in Washington D.C. and demand a moral public policy agenda.
Dear John,
Despite the fact that we live in the richest country in the history of the world, 800 people a day lose their lives due to poverty and low wealth. That’s over 295,000 people a year.
During the COVID-19 pandemic alone, 300,000 people died just because they lacked access to health care.
And yet when Congress considered raising the minimum wage to a living wage of $15 an hour, extremists blocked the vote – denying an increase to over 52 million workers.
Meanwhile, these extreme lawmakers have pushed over 1,000 bills to suppress the vote since 2013. They are doing everything they can to try and take away the voting power of impacted people, including the 30% of the electorate who are poor and low wage.
If you believe that poor and low wage people should be centered in our politics, if you believe in a moral movement and the need for a movement vote – not just a political vote; if you believe our votes are demands – not just support and that we should look at where candidates stand on issues; and if you resonate and agree with the moral fusion public policy agenda below:
OUR 17-POINT POLICY AGENDA & DEMANDS:
Abolishing poverty as the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S.
A living minimum wage of at least $15 +/hour (indexed for inflation)
Full and expanded voting rights
No more voter suppression
Guaranteed workers’ rights & labor rights
Healthcare for all
Affordable, adequate housing
Strong social welfare and safety net programs
An end to gun violence, profit and proliferation
Fully protected women’s rights
Environmental justice that secures clean air & water
Justice for all Indigenous nations
Fully-funded public education
Just immigration laws
Addressing militarism and the war economy
Standing for peace not war; an immediate cease fire in Gaza that allows humanitarian relief, the release of all hostages, and peace with justice; and an end to genocide around the world
An end to hate, division, and the extremist political agenda…
The mass assembly and moral march will center the stories of poor and low-wage people and our call to wake the sleeping giant of millions of poor and low-wage infrequent voters to vote in the 2024 U.S. elections. Our votes are not a show of support, they are our demands. We want to see where the candidates stand on these issues.
We’re calling for impacted poor and low-wage workers, faith leaders, labor leaders, and other advocates and advocacy partners to come by the thousands to join with us and demand a moral public policy agenda.
WHEN: June 29, 2024, 10 a.m.
LOCATION: Meet at Third and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Following the assembly and moral march, we will launch a four-month effort to reach 15 million poor and low-wage infrequent voters ahead of this year’s elections through intensive organizing and earned and paid communications efforts.
This is a time for a mass mobilization of consciousness. We are the resurrection, not an insurrection.
