From gun violence to the skyrocketing cost of living to the ongoing threat to our democracy, our leaders haven’t been making progress on the issues that are top of mind for young people.
That's where Leaders We Deserve comes in, John.
Founded by David Hogg and Kevin Lata, Leaders We Deserve is a grassroots-powered organization working hard to elect young progressives to Congress and state legislatures across the country.
And recently they announced a slate of new candidate endorsements spanning 12 candidates across 10 states.
We’ll explain more about the candidates below, but if you don’t have the time to read and still want to make an impact, please consider pitching in $20.24 today to be split among these 12 fantastic young leaders.
In battleground state Arizona, first-generation American and Rhodes Scholar Oscar De Los Santos played a pivotal role in the fight to repeal the state’s cruel abortion ban. He needs and deserves our help to win re-election later this year.
In Tennessee, reproductive rights champion Allie Phillips and immigrant rights advocate and first-generation American Luis Mata are going to be critical additions to the state legislature.
In Texas, ER nurse Molly Cook will continue to be a powerful force advocating for reproductive rights and public transit in the State Senate. She recently won a special election to serve out the remainder of the current term, but she’ll need to be re-elected to a full term in November!
In Florida, climate advocate Nate Douglas will make sure young folks’ priorities are front and center, along with Bryce Berry and Ashwin Ramaswami in neighboring Georgia. And in North Carolina, non-profit leader and former National Guard Captain Dante Pittman will do the same.
In Ohio, Christine Cockley is running for the State House. She’s determined to make housing and childcare more affordable and keep our communities safe from gun violence — along with Anna Thomas in nearby Pennsylvania.
In Montana, Anja Wookey-Huffman is also laser-focused on reducing housing costs. As a born-and-raised Montanan who worked in Bozeman restaurants to fund her way through college and pay the bills, she personally understands the challenges young people are facing today.
And last but certainly not least, in Delaware, Sarah McBride has the chance to make history as the first openly trans member of the US Congress. She’s a badass state senator who’s been the driving force behind a slew of incredible bills, and she’s ready to take the fight to Washington next.
